Ahoy again, mate! Sailing in with more than half the votes this summer, the deep blue Star-Studded (0620) is officially the seasonal favorite paint color for Summer 2015!
Selecting a nautical color palette this season, McCormick Paints Color Expert, Liz Stone, carefully chose a red, white, blue and gold color from the McCormick Paints Color Is display, an extensive color system with over 1300 colors. By narrowing down the summer palette to four colors, Liz helped familiarize us with four gorgeous paint colors that work well together, especially for those with a nautical or patriotic taste, as well as looking beautiful on their own. Then, we turned to the most important opinions, YOURS, asking you to choose your favorite color from the summer palette by voting in the fifth consecutive McCormick Paints Seasonal Color Poll! Your votes revealed that the brilliant Star-Studded is the overall favorite for Summer 2015!
Navy blue hues are ubiquitously present throughout nautical-themed designs highlighted in beach house magazines, summer-time fashion blogs, or anything related to sailing! It’s no wonder that navy blue is so closely associated with nautical style and patriotism, as it derives its name from the British Navy, which began using the deep blue color in its uniforms as early as 1748. Today, navy blue evokes feelings of intelligence, sophistication and elegance.
How to Paint with Navy Blue
Perfect for any home, whether on the water or inland, Star-Studded can be used to add drama and depth to your rooms, while providing the perfect backdrop allowing bright colors to pop, like the yellow accents found in these throw pillows and candles. When used in tandem with a bright white coffered ceiling, window trim and baseboard, Star-Studded acts as a neutral backsplash without overpowering the room visuals.
For those of us without an ocean view right outside our window…we’re still in luck! Decorate with Star-Studded and bring the serenity of living-by-the-sea into your home or office. In this photo, Star-Studded adds elegance and tranquility to the dining area. The navy blue paint provides a beautiful contrast to the crisp white wainscoting, allowing this room to remain bright, a little bold, but still offering that timeless, relaxed, at-the-beach, feeling.
Navy blue can be a strong color, making it a great paint color for accent walls within a large space. In this corporate lobby, navy blue accent walls are used to draw your eye gaze to the areas that your company wants to highlight, whether it be wall art and décor, or your corporate messaging. Notice how the Star-Studded accent walls also create the feeling of enclosure, highlighting the waiting area, and separating this area visually from the main hallways, painted in a more subtle gray-beige.
