We love the color green, but at McCormick Paints, green is more than just a paint color. It’s how we operate, how we make paint! In honor of Earth Day, here are a few of the ways McCormick manufactures paints with our beautiful Earth in mind.
It starts with our manufacturing facilities, which are 100% recyclable and zero waste. Some of the ways we eliminate waste are by reusing production water in future paint batches and reusing the plastic water totes throughout the manufacturing process. We keep our earth’s limited resources in mind.
Recycling is a key part of our paint manufacturing and our initiative for eco-friendly processes. Wooden pallets, used to ship and store products, are repaired in-house and reused or recycled through a local pallet manufacturer for resale. No wooden pallets are sent into the waste stream.
We care about our carbon footprint. Natural light provides over 70% of the lighting needs in the McCormick distribution center in Frederick, Maryland. In the summer time, our distribution center can turn off all the electrical lights during the work day! Plus, as a regional manufacturer with our plants in Frederick, Maryland and Rockville, Maryland, we are able to ship all of our products within a 500 mile radius of where they’re made. The close proximity of our manufacturing plants to regional construction projects allows the building owner to capitalize on LEED Green Building Credits. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an ecology-oriented building certification program run under the auspices of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
We hope you enjoyed these Earth Day fun facts about our green manufacturing and distribution processes. Interested in eco-friendly, low and zero VOC paints? We’ve got those, too. Visit our GREEN WISE® page for a list of GREEN WISE® certified paints, products that do not contain certain chemicals which have been determined to be harmful to humans or our environment.
Happy Earth Day from McCormick Paints!
